I created a personal website that has become the number-one independent online resource on the subject of hand dyeing, attracting over 100,000 unique visits and 250,000 page views per month. It's the first result you see in Google if you search for "hand dye" or "tie dye".
My specialities include translating scientific and technical information so that it makes sense to non-scientists and artists. The same sort of thing in the other direction, translating users' needs to computers, was essential in my former job at the Genome Sequencing Center.
