Responsible for the preclinical development of the drug delivery activities within the R&D group, managing a group of 14 people (scientists and materials engineers and associates).
• Increased the company’s ability to develop novel formulations with no new chemical entities and dramatically reduced the existing development process (4 – 10 years per product), by bringing in technical experts and building a team in the formulations group that had the technical ability and relevant industry experience to address these technical challenges. This resulted in the ability to drastically shorten the development time for products from the idea phase, through the pre clinical phases to clinical to 12 – 18 months in the relevant focus areas.

• Reporting to the Director of the Manufacturing and Materials operating unit, was responsible for managing resources, and developing and implementing a strategy for the center to ensure a sustainable income and a pipeline of products from the development of intellectual property by providing the strategic and technical leadership for a group of 25 technical experts, and managing the project managers, personnel and resources.
• Increased revenue to CSIR by the development of a patented oral controlled drug delivery system for Diclofenac and Verapamil, taking it from bench top to clinical trials to scale up in collaboration with a pharmaceutical company.
• Ensured the financial sustainability for the group
• Increased a group’s profitability by 20% within one year by restructuring the group and its activities to generate relevant intellectual property that could be commercialized.
