Patent Attorney/Owner, Law Office of Steven R. Olsen, PLLC
Ocala, Florida Area
I'm a patent attorney focused on the acquisition of patent rights. I have an extensive engineering background and "Biglaw" experience. I charge fixed attorney fees for most services in an effort to provide predictability and exceptional value to my clients.
I draft, file, and prosecute patent applications before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. I also perform prior art searches and can provide written patentability and clearance opinions. The bulk of my practice involves U.S. non-provisional utility patent applications. But I also prepare and file provisional patent applications and design patent applications when appropriate. Moreover, I can file international patent applications under the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) for clients who wish to pursue foreign patent rights.
I'm licensed to practice law in Virginia, I'm registered to practice before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office, and I am also admitted to the U.S. Court of Appeals in the Fourth and Federal Circuits. I am not licensed in Florida, and I do not provide legal counsel or represent clients in matters related to state law.
I'm most experienced in the electrical, software, and business method arts. I also routinely handle patent applications related to simple mechanical inventions.

My practice at Finnegan was split between complex patent litigation and patent application drafting/prosecution. I'm especially grateful for the litigation experience, though. And I got to work with some very talented attorneys. I was based in Finnegan's Reston, VA office.

The majority of my practice at Cooley was devoted to patent application drafting. The balance was divided between patent prosecution, client counseling, patent due diligence investigations, and support for a very few patent litigation and pre-litigation matters. I had some great coaches at this firm. I worked in Cooley's Reston, VA office.
