Parkinson's Unity Walk’s Summary
The 15th Unity Walk will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2009! Mark your calendars and register now at unitywalk.org.
Last year's 14th Unity Walk was the best one yet - thanks to all those who participated, sponsors and volunteers, well over 10,000 people came to raise $1.8 million dollars in which 100% went towards PD research.
The Walk is now on YouTube! We have partnered with Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc. to post a short video about the Unity Walk on YouTube. Check it out via this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ILQR4hbQL8U

The Parkinson's Unity Walk is the largest grassroots event for Parkinson's disease research in the country. Every April thousands of people gather in New York's Central Park for this day of Unity. It is a day of Community and Education.

The Parkinson Alliance, the umbrella company for the Parkinson's Unity Walk also has other events planned throughout the country. Every September, we partner with Boston Properties and Carnegie Center in Princeton, NJ for a 5K and fun run. And we have the support of Team Parkinson in California working hard to motivate people through exercise. Team Parkinson is the official charity of the LA Marathon. They are also a part of the San Fran Marathon, and hold an annual golf outing. For more info, check out their website at www.team-parkinson.org.
Parkinson's Unity Walk’s Honors:
The Alan Bonander Humanitarian Award is given to an individual in recognition of their exemplary contribution to the Parkinson’s community. Alan Bonander was a person with Parkinson's who selflessly devoted to his time to patient advocacy through research and direct interaction with physicians.
Congratulations to John Ball, of Whittier, California, winner of the 2009 Alan Bonander Humanitarian Award! John’s goals in life have never been about money or fame, but he recognizes the value of each to gain attention to the needs of this community. Ball says, “I certainly can’t do what Michael J. Fox or Muhammad Ali can do to raise awareness and media attention to our cause, but I can run and ride a bike and try to inspire others to take control of their lives and face this challenge with determination.” Full story is posted on unitywalk.org
