I spent a little over one year inside Second Life, part for fun, part as a research. I got knowledgeable with most of the technical infrastructure and dabbled into scripting and building.
I also managed to keep myself up to date about the "social" aspects of Second Life, and while I don't spend much time in it anymore, I still have contacts and tend to follow the main trends and news about this "place".

The system uses a set of user-defined rules, plus constraints based on time and business requirements, to find out and book flight seats through Amadeus brokering API.

S.M.A.L.L. (Service Manager for AdsL Lines); joint Tilab/Telecom Italia project for ADSL lines provisioning and fault diagnosis. The project serviced the entire national ADSL infrastructure.

Responsibilities / Achievements: Full technical responsibility for the application.
Design and development from the first prototype to full maturity. Developed and maintained a set of related utilities for data analysis, help-desk support, source code control, deployment and quality assurance.
Maintained a good compromise between time-to-market and quality, with high level of satisfaction among the end-users.
Sophisticated application with high availability requirements, working in a heterogeneous environment: provisioning operations required 5-6 operations through different protocols (SNMP, telnet, TL-1) on diverse network nodes (Marconi, Alcatel, Cisco etc.).

S.I.M. (Sistema Informativo Meccaniche) and G.O.A.L. (Gestione Ordini a Listino) for Fiat Auto. The first was a large-scale project for planning, managing and monitor production for automotive sub-assemblies plants. The latter was a financial system for tracking and managing corporate-level procurement pricing.
Platform/Infrastructure: Cobol, SQL*Forms, Oracle, C, on VAX-VMS.
Responsibilities / Achievements: Designed and developed ad-hoc algorithms to schedule workloads on assembly lines.
Careful design and maintenance effort to ensure high availability and robustness of application, due to the distributed nature of the application (S.I.M. modules run in up to a dozen different plants all over Italy).

Since the end of high school I worked on various small projects, either as a sort of self-employed consultant or for small IT companies.
Among the rest, I translated technical literature to an from English, wrote small business application, offered expertise in the then booming personal computing field.
I used Apple ][ computers, early IBM PCs, PDP-11 and medium sized mainframes.
I translated the first Italian Edition of the Call of Cthulhu RPG (licensed from Chaosium and published in Italy by Stratelibri).
