Onedia Sylvest is an artist, free-lance writer, web site developer, and avid blogger. She established the Bull Shoals Beacon and provides technical support and writes for this online community magazine. Onedia has contributed articles to Political Voices of Women and Midlife Bloggers. She is an avid proponent of blogging and is a strong believer in using the internet for grassroots citizen journalism and for its potential for international networking and outreach for individuals, businesses, and communities.
She designs and creates one-of-a-kind jewelry locally shown at White Mist of Cotter, Cotter Arkansas.
Onedia, a retired U. S. Navy Officer, earned a Master of Science in Computer Systems Management from the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from University of Central Arkansas.
Her experience ranges from executive officer duties at the Naval Station, Guam to Associate Director of Computing and Information Services at Texas A&M University. In her two careers she polished her skills in planning, organizational development, employee development, marketing, public relations, community outreach, budgeting and process improvement. Surviving Guam’s typhoons, droughts, rolling power outages, earthquakes and other wonders of living on a remote island she has managed a number of crisis and emergency situations.
