Originally starting out as a web designer, I kind of fell into Search Engine Optimization (SEO)after building sites for clients they would often ask me: "Why doesn't my site come up in Google when I search?" I would scratch my head and I probably looked like a Deer in headlights...I had no idea; I then became consumed with the process (keyword), and began to read as much as I could about search engine optimization and studied what other sites that ranked well were doing...eventually it started to click...now about 10 years later...it's what I do and love. I was a Sr SEO Analyst at my last company, and I am a Sr. SEO Analyst at my present company...I guess the Sr part just signifies that I know what I'm doing! ;)
SEO is like one of those puzzles where you have to move the pieces around and try to get them in the right order to complete the picture...I've always liked those!
SEO, basically is acquired knowledge, like anything, the more you know, the better off you are. My definition of search engine optimization: Instinct fed by acquired knowledge.
I'm more of a hands on kind of person and won't ever shovel any bullsh*t your way...those who know me will concur...if they don't, they have a shovel in their hands and don't know me! Beware!!!
I've worked on a lot of sites in the past decade, getting rank by what seemed to be the the natural way(white hat),...it was! In the beginning, it was "monkey see, monkey do"...after years of being a monkey, It started to really click...my tail fell off and now I hardly swing in trees anymore. :)
