October 2003 — August 2005 (1 year 11 months)
I accepted this position at the middle of the Dot-Bomb internet company bust. It was humbling to work with the public again. This was my first management position, which I didn't particularly enjoy.
(Retail industry)
March 2001 — March 2003 (2 years 1 month)
I founded 35th Avenue North Skateboards with Tony Krogan in 2001. My goal was to use my industry experience to get it started, then exit the business. I really just wanted a better skateboard shop in Seattle.
I sold my part of the business to Tony before relocating to San Francisco in 2003.
(Public Company; 51-200 employees; MWY; Computer Games industry)
November 1999 — March 2003 (3 years 5 months)
This was the funnest job! I was in charge of building the workstations and servers, and keeping the network connected and humming. I also handled system specifications and purchasing. I learned more at this position than any prior.
The only reason I quit this job was that the shades were always drawn, and it's always overcast in Seattle.
(Privately Held; 51-200 employees; Architecture & Planning industry)
October 1997 — October 1999 (2 years 1 month)
Shortly after starting with the Helpdesk at Bassetti, my reputation spread to other architecture firms in Seattle. Mithun contacted me, and I accepted their offer.
I learned a lot more about servers at this position, but still not enough to claim to be a Network Administrator.
(Public Company; 501-1000 employees; WALL; Computer Software industry)
May 1998 — October 1998 (6 months)
I worked at Wall Data briefly while living in New York for a summer. I learned more about networking and Windows Server at this position. When I returned to Seattle, I was (what I would consider a real) a network administrator.
(Architecture & Planning industry)
October 1995 — October 1997 (2 years 1 month)
I started as the gopher/office support person, and started fixing the computers. Windows for Workgroups 3.11 was a long time ago, thankfully.
