Digital and social media editor at Johnston Press
Brighton, United Kingdom
I am an NCE qualified journalist working as digital content and social media editor for the Worthing Herald series and Chichester Observer series.
I have worked in the newspaper industry since 1992, and first became interested in the internet in 1995. After qualifying as a journalist I specialised in local government and human interest stories, before moving into entertainments and sub editing.
Longing to move back to hard news, I became a sub editor at the Worthing Herald, where my knowledge of internet social networking was recognised and I was took on the websites.
Herald's web presence has grown dramatically once I took on the task.
I am a confident video editor using Avid Express Pro.
Since 1996 I have used various forms of web communication tools.
Today I embrace social media flavours of the month such as YouTube, Facebook, Digg, Reddit and Twitter, utilising these services as new gathering and delivery devices.
My confidence in the world of web journalism has seen me recognised as one of Johnston Press's digital champions.
In November 2009, I started an additional role as a guest lecturer at Brighton & Hove City College, hosting online journalism workshops for NCTJ newspaper and magazine journalists.
My goals are, to enhance and develop my knowledge of SEO; improved competence with HTML, and to discover and utilise new ways for newspapers to reach a wider audience online.
