    Isotrak are a leading supplier of services to the freight transport industry in the UK and increasingly overseas. Isotrak system installations account for over 70% of UK retail sector fleets, as well as many household names in the general logistics and parcel delivery marketplace. I joined to help optimise Isotrak’s Active Transport Management Software (ATMS) and to develop bespoke solutions tailored to each client’s requirements. All the projects are focused around Agile methodologies.

    I moved to Vancouver in November 2008 but continued to provide Isotrak with offline solutions to continue enhancing the ATMS platform. All work has been accomplished from home over their VPN.

    UCLES is a department of the University of Cambridge, and a not-for-profit organisation. They are Europe's largest assessment agency and incorporate three major examination boards.

    I joined as a senior developer to work on UCLES’
    Interchange project. Interchange is an UCLES extranet that links OCR (an examinations awarding body) with examiners and moderators to enable them to carry out day-to-day tasks for examination administration. The project team consists of several developers, business analysts and testers. The users are engaged throughout the phases of the development programme. The project is run utilising an Agile method and the major components are constructed using Microsoft .NET and BizTalk technologies.

    Capita Education Services (CES) is the leading supplier of information systems to the education sector. The company provides a range of software and services to over 22,000 schools, over 146 local authorities and over 180 further and higher education institutions.

    I joined CES’s Children’s Services Directorate to work on a project to link their Extended Management System to other local authority systems. Working with the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and other software providers, I’ve been involved in the design and construction of these SOA-based information-sharing standards. These systems utilised Web Services, SOAP, OASIS WS-* standards and other government E-Gif models to share and analyse information about children at risk. I worked closely with the product and business analysts, systems analysts and testing teams and also acted as a technical team lead for a team of offshore developers that were used to complete some of the work.
