Nick Meador’s Summary

I recently finished the Masters of Journalism program at Michigan State University, during which I focused on online news production.

My professional interests are diverse, and include Internet publishing and creative writing, as well as journalistic coverage of music, culture, science, and environmental issues. I’m interested in devising new ways for people to find information, interact, and share using the web.

During my graduate program, I started and edited the MusicEdge section on SpartanEdge.com. I also wrote for two other student publications, and wrote a monthly music column for NOISE Magazine. I’ve completed three internships in the communication field, two of which were in journalism. Consequently I have extensive experience with writing, reporting, and editing. I can create and edit content using text, photos, video and audio. I’m able to install and maintain WordPress blogs and HTML-based web sites.

Last summer I developed a web site called Supraterranean.com. The site was imagined as an interactive literary magazine for writers, filmmakers, and artists to self-publish their creative work, including everything from fiction to short films to experimental multimedia. I currently handle all editing, art direction, and web design for the site.

In the fall I participated in the Eco-Friendly Internship at Ingenex Digital Marketing in Ann Arbor, MI. The skills I acquired at Ingenex can be put to use in online publishing and journalism. For example, search engine optimization is necessary to direct traffic to a web site.

I frequently use many social media sites and Web 2.0 tools like Facebook and Twitter. I am experienced with Adobe Creative Suite 3, including Dreamweaver, Photoshop and InDesign. I’m comfortable with Mac applications for editing audio (GarageBand) and video (iMovie), and I have even more experience with Windows. I am fluent with Microsoft Office. In general I’m willing and able to rapidly learn new software and Internet tools.
