I currently teach Internet Legal Research to law students and try to help them find the most cost-effective (which generally mean time-effective) means of legal research. There are many trade-offs in determining which resources to use among print, free web, and premium services. I am fascinated by records management and the privacy implications of cross-border dataflows. The application of information technology to law enforcement, the administration of justice, and disaster mitigation and response is another keen interest of mine. I volunteer with the Ramsey County Sheriff's Community Emergency Response Team and am interested in how locational technologies like GPS and RFID may aid first responders and allied aid agencies.
