Nathan Barrett’s Summary
Starting as a graduate with Telstra in February 2000, i have gained exposure to many aspects of the company and ICT industry in general. Gaining my experience predominantly in Testing, i started out in Stress and Volume Testing of Mainframe Applications, using OS390, JCL and COBOL programming language. From there, i moved accross to mid-range SVT, working predominately with Windows 2000 Server based products. Gaining a sound knowledge of testing process and testing tools based around the industry standard Mercury Interactive Testing Suite, i moved into a role designing and documenting Test Networks for use in the online testing space using tools such as Visio and NetViz. After that i moved into testing of Customer Premises Equipment, validating Bigpond/Teletech support scripts for the Bigpond helpdesk, as well as working on the soon to be released online gaming network for XBOX live and Sony Playstation Online for Bigpond Games Arena, focusing on traffic profiling with use of voice and gameplay, as well as interaction with CPE offered by Telstra. After that i gained expertise in CPE for use in IPWAN and ISP product offerings for the consumer space, and later, the SME and Enterprise markets. Working on Remote Networking solutions, encompassing DSL, WiFi, CDMA and GSM based access networks, i gained much experience in integration testing from the end user desktop, right back through the network, over IP VPN's to corporate networks. My current work involves testing IP Data products including IP Telemetry and Security applications, including working closely with specialist vendors on complicated CPE and architecture, as well as gaining my Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) accreditation.
My goal is to gain knowledge and expertise in CPE and Networks, with a view to starting my own service based company in the fledgling consumer Home Automation market.
