April 2009 — Present (8 months)
Worked as a part-time ALT at a junior high school. Assisted the first grade teacher with planning and helping the slower students in class. Also helped find new ways to get the students to pronounce words without relying on katakana. Gave hints concerning singular and plural, which position an English verb is in a sentence, and corrected mistakes concerning the letters b, d, v, p, l, and r.
Assisted the special needs teacher with fun, easy to do activities, joined them during their cooking class, and ate lunch with the students. It was also an ongoing learning experience as the students were free to ask questions in either English or Japanese.
The second and third grade teachers were assisted in whatever they needed such as reading to the students or grading their papers. Also gave students a mock Eiken test so they could practice for the real one. Students were told that everything had to be in English, and they needed to respond quickly using their own words. When time permitted the students were asked personal questions such as how many are in their family, what hobbies they have, and what they want to be when they grow up. Students were also tested to see if they could respond correctly to questions they weren’t prepared for.

Was in charge of planning an efficient way to prepare these CDs from burning, printing labels, to the final packaging with a souvenir included for some languages.
Ongoing projects from these ideas now include a weekly "everyday kanji" video lesson so everyone can benefit from kanji being used in real life.
