Freelance Photographer
Greater Detroit Area
My broad range of interests has led me to diverse experiences. Trained as a professional photographer, I have worked as a freelance photographer for over four years, photographing events, portraits, destinations, and my own personal work that concerns personal storytelling.
Most recently, I was granted an internship at my alma mater in the Communications department. As the sole photographer on staff, my responsibilities included not only creation of photography, but the subsequent editing of the photographs and relative copy. In addition, I was involved in each step, from inception to output, in print and web publications.
Simultaneously to my internship, I volunteered at the Park Nicollet Clinic in the Whittier neighborhood of Minneapolis as a Co-Curator. In this role I worked alongside a mentor to establish a gallery within the hospital to aid in the health of the community through art. I was involved with the creation of the mission statement, promotional materials, remodeling of the gallery space, selection of artists, and installation of exhibitions.
I would like to continue to work within the fields of education and non-profits. Currently I am a freelance photographer interested in working with local communities.

As a freelance photographer, I photograph primarily portraits and destinations (travel), but am interested in all opportunities. My photographic work is based heavily in research and I work with clients to create unique and exemplary results.

During this wonderful opportunity I was able to tackle multi-faceted goals simultaneously. I filled the role of photojournalist for the school, and initiated creative ways to reach out to the community, such as a Flickr account. This allowed for an up-close look at the life of the students, which was helpful for many reasons, including: student engagement (keeping up with what's going on around the school), connecting with potential donors (showing how students can benefit from their donations), and informing alumni of their evolving alma mater.
My experience as an intern also brought other unexpected responsibilities. Towards the end of my internship, I began to place our biweekly e-mail outreach, e-news, into html coding, as well as selecting and resizing images, and proofing the final draft before it was delivered to our subscriber list that reached over 1,000 people.

March 2008 — May 2008 (3 months)
My responsibility as a sender at this photographic printing facility was to take incoming orders and send them to the appropriate queue for printing. I also took on additional roles such as mounting photographs to various surfaces, packaging of photographs, and shipping.

The Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design offers a student exchange program. It is because of this that I was able to learn from internationally exhibiting artist Nicholas Pye.
2004 — 2007
It is because of my education in the arts that I am passionate about the importance of art within communities. Though formally trained as a photographer, my experience ranges across the mediums of painting, drawing, graphic design, and typography. Additionally, my education as a practitioner of art has led to a deep understanding of the history and appreciation of visual arts.
