Molly Uline-Olmstead is a Generation X artist and scholar. Concerned with both her history and future, her art and interests straddle the present, one foot in her ancestry, one poised above tomorrow. Her artwork is a combination of traditional techniques and current concepts. Using embroidery, fabric, needlework, and the traditional format of muslin on stretchers, she approaches artmaking as a contemporary young woman exploring the changing role of young women. Utilizing imagery from her childhood in the Appalachian Mountains and imagery from the current home in the city of Columbus, Ohio she deals with issues of alienation, failure, and death as well as dizzying joy, play, and escapism. Her scholarship reflects her artistic pursuits. She is deeply interested in the role of women, bonds they make and break, work and art they produce and how their role has and will continue to change from our great-grandmothers to our daughters.
Oh! and she LOVES to knit!
