I completed my bachelor’s degree in the field of studio art with a minor in digital arts at the University of California, Irvine. During my undergraduate career, I was granted an Undergraduate Studio Residency during the fall 2003 term and honored with the department’s award for excellence upon commencement. As an artist in the community, I earned a scholarship to teach elementary school art classes through ArtsBridge America in 2002–03. As an undergraduate, I authored, designed, and self-published the book The Minimalls of Downey, California, for which I was a finalist for the PenUSA Emerging Voices program in 2004 and included in the Institute for Cultural Inquiry’s book Searching for Sebald, published in November 2007.
