Information graphics editor, The San Diego Union-Tribune

I began my journalism career as a sports correspondent for the Times-Union (Warsaw, Ind.) in 1993 while in my freshman year of high school. I entered Ball State in 1996, where I worked on the staffs of the campus newspaper — The Ball State Daily News — as a news artist, writer, editorial columnist and page designer. While enrolled there, I also worked for the Star Press (Muncie, Ind.) as a sports correspondent and later, the Chronicle-Tribune (Marion, Ind.) as a freelance news artist.
Within the journalism graphics track, I worked for The Associated Press (New York) and The Oregonian (Portland, Ore.) in news artist internships. I also worked as a freelance news artist for AP from 1999-2001.
After graduation, I worked as a news artist intern at The Times-Picayune (New Orleans). I was hired full-time shortly thereafter, and remained in that role for 3 1/2 years.
In December 2004, I began working as a news artist at The San Diego Union-Tribune. In the summer of 2006, I was promoted to the senior news artist position. In early 2008, I was promoted to graphics editor.
