The Tutor System (het Rotterdamse mentorstelsel) trained a selection of excellent senior law students to guide first year students during their weekly sessions. The first year students had to work on assignments prepared by the teaching staff of the law school. The tutors (mentoren) used a Socratic method to induce students to construct the right answers, thus provoking independent, critial and creative argumentation.
