Mikko Kapanen’s Summary

I currently edit and produce content for the African Labour News for Worker's World Media. These news are broadcasted on SABC's Channel Africa and on several other African Public Broadcasters' stations. I take photographs and do design for Inkokhelo (www.inkokhelo.com) and lecture at UCT (University of Cape Town) Centre for Film and Media Studies where I have been teaching radio specialist students.

Before these I co-ran an audio production company Voxpop Africa Media (www.voxpopafrica.com)

I have ten years experience in radio in three different countries. I have presented shows in Finnish and English on commercial and community sectors. I have also studied radio in UCE (University of Central England) in Birmingham.

I am particularly interested in the practices of community radio, which I have researched at Bush Radio in Cape Town. At Bush Radio I also did my weekly international Hip Hop programme, which was a pilot project for the station when its production moved overseas and was produced weekly from UK with the help of internet.

I am also a photographer and my exhibition ‘Kipepeo’ has been so far in Café Muse (Manchester Museum, UK). I have designed promotional material for South African independent artists and adverts in Finland.
