I am passionate about organizing and leading teams to build high-tech software solutions. As an entrepreneur, I have founded software organizations to pursue this passion and have had the opportunity to develop a broad range of skills.
As a leader, I am passionate about organizing my team to achieve their full potential by working together to set a vision and strategy, then mentoring and coaching through the execution of the plan. I am skilled in company operations, finance, accounting, human resources, sales, marketing and customer service. I enjoy challenges and can execute with very little supervision.
Organizations I have founded have all been operated by a remote workforce, building on operational infrastructure and a culture that supported this design. I am well versed in all aspects of remote working, both domestically and internationally.
As an engineer, I am experienced in working with the business to identify needs, develop architecture and lead a team to implement a solution on a wide range of platforms. I have extensive experience building web-based software and highly available applications. I can "speak" both the technical and business language and particularly enjoy translating between the two. I am experienced in Agile and Scrum methodologies.
I am passionate about open source and the open source community. I enjoy working within open source organizations and supporting the ecosystem with my organizational and technical experience. I have participated on the front-lines of several open source communities, including Drupal, jQuery and Node.js.
I attack all of these passions through the lens of a coach, mentor and teacher. I love sharing my knowledge with others and helping my team achieve their full potential. I have had the opportunity to deliver high-tech training to several Fortune 500 companies. I have also gained experience through many speaking opportunities, to audiences numbering over 1000.

I was hired onto CCT through a 3-month contract to hire package, spending the first 3 months with COMSYS, Inc. CCT is part of Japan Communications Incorporated (JCI), the first MVNO in Japan.
My job at CCT was to work in the Research & Development department putting together a new mobile platform set to be launched in Japan & China on JCI's network. The hardware device is based upon a Linux embedded package. PHP and Ajax technologies have also played a significant role in the architecture. I currently have a patent pending for the architecture design that I put together.
I worked on a 3 month contract through Gunther Douglas. I was contracted to Xcel Energy, who had developed a partnership with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). I and two other engineers worked on a piece of prototype software that was designed to help planning engineers at Xcel Energy determine the optimal place to put solar cells.
The software was built using open source software around a Postgres GIS backend. The front end was based upon a PHP/AJAX project called pmapper. I worked mainly on the PHP/AJAX front end, adding significant functionality.
In the end, the project was extended as much as possible, but ultimately ran out of steam.
I worked for CIBER in the Rocky Mountain Government division as a contract employee for the Bureau of Land Management. I was responsible for porting legacy ASP code to PHP for several web sites. While at CIBER, the BLM failed a unannounced IT security audit and all websites were shut down for 6 months. During this time, I participated in extensive security reviews and security training. I passed the Ethical Hacker Certification test while with CIBER.
I worked on several projects before the security audit. The most notable would be the Adopt A Horse website software to allow the public to adopt wild horses from BLM land. http://www.blm.gov/adoptahorse/
