Mr. Jacobs began his career began at the Applied Physics Lab – University of Washington (APL-UW), developing onboard computer based training applications and battle simulations for the US Navy.
While working at APL-UW, Mr. Jacobs participated in the development of classified and unclassified training and simulation products for the Office of Naval Intelligence, the Office of Naval Research, the National Science Foundation and other organizations. Mr. Jacobs also maintained his group's web and application servers.
Subsequently as a Projects Manager for EduSystems Gulf in Dubai, UAE, he directed the implementation of a secure network that served as the backbone of an IP based CCTV surveillance system at a regional military academy.
Immediately after joining Network & Security Technologies in October of 2003, Mr. Jacobs performed a network application inventory, which involved mapping data traffic, ports and services to business applications. The results of this project gave the client, an international luxury automotive manufacturer, greater insight and control over its network resources. Mr. Jacobs has also led vulnerability and penetration tests against systems in corporate IT and Control System environments.
Focusing on the energy industry, Mr. Jacobs has spent much of the past five years assisting high-profile electrical utilities with their regulatory security compliance efforts, including the NERC CIP-002 – CIP-009 Cyber Security standards. Mr. Jacobs has played a key role in assessing and improving critical infrastructure security, performing gap analyses, authoring security policy frameworks, designing networks with enhanced security services and evaluating emerging security technologies.
Mr. Jacobs received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Washington. He also holds several industry certifications, including the CISSP, CISM and CCNP.
