Michael Kraten, PhD, CPA is the President and co-founder of Enterprise Management Corporation, a strategic management consulting firm in Milford, Connecticut. He is also an Assistant Professor of Accounting at Suffolk University in Boston, Massachusetts.
Dr. Kraten teaches ethics, leadership, and cost accounting in the executive education, graduate, and undergraduate programs of the Sawyer Business School at Suffolk University, and has designed and taught courses in risk management, business planning, and applied business research for that institution.
Dr. Kraten has authored articles in both the academic and practitioner literature, including such publications as the Journal of Digital Business, the Journal of Theoretical Accounting Research, the CPA Journal, Family Foundation Advisor, and PensionGovernance.com. He holds a Certified Public Accountancy license in New York State and Connecticut, and has presented research papers at conferences sponsored by the American Accounting Association, the Institute of Management Accountants, and other organizations.
Prior to joining Suffolk University, Dr. Kraten taught at the University of Massachusetts, the University of Connecticut, and other colleges in the Northeast. He has worked at Enterprise Management Corporation in his current position since 1995; prior to that time, he was a management consulting partner at BDO Seidman (the fifth largest accounting firm worldwide) and spent eight years in the consulting, accounting, and audit divisions of Deloitte & Touche (the second largest accounting firm worldwide).
Dr. Kraten has earned a Ph.D. in behavioral accounting from the University of Connecticut. He has also earned an M.P.P.M. in management from Yale University and a B.B.A. in public accounting from Baruch College of the City University of New York.
Dr. Kraten is a management accounting educator and researcher who specializes in behavioral factors impacting issues of negotiation, entrepreneurship, and social policy. He chairs the Department of Accounting's Business Advisory Board, and serves as the sole representative of Sawyer Business School on Suffolk University's Institutional Review Board (IRB).
