I've spent most of my time either directly managing construction projects, or putting in place better processes and systems through the use of Lean Management and Continuous Improvement principles.

What I learned: Communication is critical to customer satisfaction. The homebuilding process is extremely stressful for the customer, and "over-communicating" always helps to assuage their stress. And if the customer is upset, it doesn't matter how efficiently the project was completed. -

What I learned: In a chaotic work environment, leadership MUST focus on safety & quality all day every day. Even a slight loss of focus can result in hugely wasteful mistakes, or worse, injuries to the workforce. Management has to provide leadership in these areas.
