Change Control and Management
I brought the concept of Change Control and Change Management to my team where these were required but new. Using experience gained with 15 years in the mainframe environment I was then able to design, develop and implement an SQL Server based solution with a VB front end and an ASP thin client component. This application was built with the following major principles in mind:
• It should allow a flexible and configurable approach to Change Management
• It should be flexible enough to allow any application as yet undefined to be supported without software upgrade
• It should allow telent to prove ISO 20000 compliance
• It should be flexible enough to support processes other than change control
Implemented in April 2008, the application Initially it supported over a dozen applications, from telephony to IT Software, allowing fault logging, analysis and change control management. It was also flexible enough to support our corporate Audit Scheduling and tracking. By the end of 2008 it will be supporting over 56 different applications
Content Management System
Part of my role was to cater for the delivery of ancillary requirements, such as training material, application help and user guides and I was given a free hand as to how these needs should be met. From my arrival in 2005 I started to put such documents out via the intranet. By demonstrating that the change control system could easily delivery dynamic reports via the intranet I was allowed to develop the idea further and create a CMS solution for my team. This dramatically reduced our timescales for delivering support documentation.
Test Management Database
Prior to my arrival all test plans and scripts were written in MS Word, so they were not readily repeatable or auditable. As the CCM and CMS packages were already proving their worth we extended our toolset range by incorporating a database to hold test plans, scripts and results.
