Michael Eric Berube (LinkedIn@GoodPhotos.com)’s Summary

I used my hard earned GI Bill money and obtained the Sheepskin in Marketing (everyone said I shouldn't waste my time on the Philosophy Degree that I really wanted) and I then pursued the Great American Corporate Dream (tm) for a little over a decade in Market Research and Sales & Marketing.

I really believe in taking care of my clients, so I was a fairly successful and a very busy 'sales guy'. What left me unfulfilled were tthe demands of working for corporations who weren't always able to be as client focused as I felt we should be able to be. While the last corporation I worked for was a great experience, it was a casualty of the Great DotCom Implosion of 2001. After the dust cleared, I reevaluated where I was, compared that to where I wanted to be and realised that yet another startup wouldn't get me to where I wanted to go so I left Sales & Marketing to come back to being a happy, successful, self employed photographer, dad and husband full time.

Career wise, I am right where I want to spend the rest of my 'working' life. I get to work with the creative and interesting people whom I chose to work with and who value my product and services. I can be as customer oriented as I want to be, without answering to a new kid on the block CEO or VCs about what good customer service should cost. Other than when I'm actually making photographs with clients on site, I work largely from home and to my own schedule. (Which is convenient because, my most productive office hours are seemingly between 9pm-3am).

My profession meets my needs financially and spiritually and enables me to take a much larger role in my family's life than I would have ever been able to had I continued to be salaried from 8am-6pm (plus a two hour commute) in a white shirt and red tie from Monday to Saturday.

Life is not just good, life is great and I want to continue to work with clients who realise this as well until the day I am no longer able to hold a camera up.

Michael Eric Berube (LinkedIn@GoodPhotos.com)’s Honors:

Worlds Greatest Dad. (Awarded the Mug and all!)

Honestly, I spend more time making sure that I have very happy clients than taking any time entering print and clipping competitions to show how good I am.

I did receive the Army Achievement Medal and the Army Commendation Medal, but just for doing an excellent job as an enlisted photographer, not for anything really heroic in the Cold War/Peacetime Army. Of course like most everyone else enlisted at the time, I also received the "Thank you for your service" medals: the Army Good Conduct Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon. I did actually earn an Aircraft Crewmember Badge, an Expert Qualification with the M-16 rifle and Sharpshooter Qualification with Handgrenades, but I've not had much call to use those skills since qualifying for them. (thankfully.)
