Merry planned & ran an outpatient mental health center for seniors with emotional difficulties. She thought "out of the box" & enhanced the energy level by having students in areas such as recreational, occupational & physical therapy and social work. They provided lunch, transportation, various forms of psychotherapy, psychiatry, occupational and physical therapies, referrals and medical advocacy.
Over the years she was recognized by schools such as Columbia University, Downstate Medical School, Kingboro Community College, Adelphi University, Hunter College & Fordham University for creating an excellent teaching environment and enriching the education of their students. In addition, New York University gave Merry the title of Adjunct Assoc. Prof.
The Program was recognized three times by the United Nations because their walking group, led by their physical therapist, raised over $20,000 to help children in Africa whose parents died of AIDS. That group still exists to this day. -
