With Melanie’s research, business savvy and leadership, the advertising sales for the newspaper has not only significantly increased but also expanded into new advertising markets such as housing, cars, arts and entertainment, job classifieds, healthcare, finance and more. Melanie is responsible for researching information on the growing and evolving statistics and trends of the Latino community and utilizing this information to solicit advertisers, partners and clients of El Hispanic News. Her ability to cite statistics and trends of the Latino community on a national, statewide and local level are impressive and has created a greater awareness of the Latino Community.
Melanie’s work has resulted in benefiting the business community through providing them with a mechanism to understand and reach out and serve the Oregon Latino community. In her position, Melanie is also responsible for promotions and identifying community partners and events. El Hispanic News supports and partners with the Latino Home Buying Fair, the Susannah Maria Gurule Foundation, the Portland Guadalajara Sister City Association’s Annual Cinco de Mayo Fiesta, the Woodburn Fiesta Days, the CART Races, Portland Oregon Sports Association’s Soccer Game featuring Las Chivas from Mexico and more.
Melanie has been asked by businesses and community to make presentations on the emerging Latino market. She has made formal presentations at the request of former President of Portland Community College Jess Carreon, the Cesar Chavez Leadership Conference, the United States Hispanic Community College President’s National Conference, the American Association of Community Collage Presidents National Convention, and is currently exploring a series of partnerships and presentations with the Portland Business Alliance.
