Melanie Haiken’s Summary

After many many years as a magazine editor, I've now spent more than nine years on the other side of the desk. I wear many hats: health writer, travel writer, business writer. Most recent stories have appeared in: Health, Fortune Small Business, Continental, Delta Sky, Fitness, and Yoga Journal.

More and more, I get asked to help businesses to tell their stories. Clients have included well-known companies like Adobe, Wells Fargo, and Kaiser Permanente and small businesses like Meritas Financial and Natural Path. My strength: Showing (not telling!) how an innovative product or service is making a difference for clients and customers. White papers and case studies a specialty.

As a health writer, I'm known for being able to deliver the latest research, diagnosis, and treatment information in an empowering way. Readers think of me as an advocate for getting the best care.

As a travel writer, I specialize in health, wellness, adventure and family travel. Editors come to me because I find the getaways where you're really getting away. I'm a contributing writer to http://family.go.com/travel/, I'm the Wine Country Local Expert for www.NileGuide.com, and my work appears regularly in Continental, Delta Sky, Via, and Wild Blue Yonder.

I also spend a good deal of my time covering general health, cancer, and aging for http://www.caring.com/, a new and successful start-up website aiming to serve those of us caring for our aging parents and other family members.

My latest passion is reigniting my focus on travel, with numerous stories (on New Orleans, Nashville, San Francisco, Santa Fe, the Grand Canyon, and the Bahamas) in http://family.go.com/travel/ and www.naturaltraveler.com. Focused on placing green travel, adventure travel, and family travel stories this year.

Melanie Haiken’s Specialties:

Health, travel, nutrition, and alternative health; also business, science, and entrepreneurship. In-depth research needed? Not a problem. While there's more of a market for service writing, I also specialize in profiles and long narratives.
