I am a web designer and frontend engineer with a particular interest in Web Standards, usability and accessibility.
I have a Bachelor Degree in Computer Science and Management Skills and have worked as a developer / consultant, specialising in Java and related technologies for Cambridge Technology Partners and Thoughtworks - highly regarded in the industry and known for their pioneering work implementing Agile methodologies. I have worked on many high-profile projects for clients, both in Australia and internationally, such as Telstra, Pacific Access (Sensis), ANZ and Nationale Nederlanden and also as a contractor for ING and Visuality Life, both in Amsterdam.
In 2005, I shifted my focus to web design and development based on Web Standards and started Spiral Designs. Since then, I have created and collaborated on numerous sites for various small and medium-sized businesses in Melbourne and Sydney. I have also worked as a freelance web developer for a number of companies and also as a frontend producer.

Spiral Designs is a Melbourne-based web design and development firm, specialising in creating sites for small to medium-sized businesses and helping out larger businesses clean up their web projects using web standards-based HTML & CSS as well as with site production and implementing open source software such as Wordpress and Gallery2. I also work for graphic designers, turning their designs into quality markup and for larger companies as part of a team bridging the gap between graphic designers and back-end programmers.
Clients have included The Eclipse Group, Anem Design, Sensis, Cogent Consulting, and Feedcorp.

For these projects I acted as a site producer / analyst / UX designer and in some cases web designer.

Visuality is a small firm that creates applications targeted to the fashion industry. As a contractor I was involved in the development of a Java / Swing application using Java's Advanced Imaging API (JAI), and played an advisory role to designers with respect to usability. The project was run using an agile methodology.

As a contractor at ING I was involved in many aspects in the development of a large enterprise web application (based on Java, Websphere, Oracle, Struts, etc. ). My development roles included back- and front-end development of the main application, development and testing of migration scripts, and development of a build tool. I also introduced many testing and quality processes, educated team members on design patterns and quality practices and was responsible for overseeing the continuous integration build.

As a consultant at Thoughtworks I was involved in numerous projects for major clients. All projects were run using the Extreme Programming methodology and were developed in Java (most with the Struts framework, Oracle database, etc) with Cruise Control for continuous integration. On some projects I was responsible for the development of the user interface, sometimes also playing a large role in the design. I was also involved in requirements analysis, interviewing potential employees and writing proposals for prospective clients.

I held numerous roles at Cambridge Technology Partners - developer, consultant, senior consultant and technical team lead as well as acting project manager for a short time. In all roles I had client liaison, design, development and documentation responsibilities, often working closely with graphic designers and cognitive specialists on the user interface. As a team lead I was responsible for four team members, design tasks, development tasks and managing a relationship with the client. This position included clients such as Telstra, Sensis, and Nationale Nederlanden. All development was in Java with various ECommerce and CMS packages such as ATG Dynamo, Broadvision and Documentum.
