1995 — 2001 (6 years )
During my role as Research Officer/Writer at Adelaide University, I focused on topics related to environmental protection, coastal zone issues/management, risk identification and hazard management, ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems (EMS), environmental impact assessment (EIA) processes, and community consultation procedures and practice.
Both qualitative and quantitative research was involved, including literature reviews, statistical data analysis, and interviews with a range of stakeholders, such as publishers, editors, developers, government officers, non-government organizations (NGOs) and communities, amongst other groups. Succinct research reports were produced, resulting in the publication of several Journal Articles, Monographs, and a University Text-Book published by Oxford University Press.
Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) , Organizational Psychology, Culture, and Decision-Making Process in Environmental Management , 1996 — 2000
I was awarded an 'Australian Postgraduate Award' Scholarship to undertake the 'Doctorate of Philosophy' (PhD), which involved 4 years of extensive, significant and original research. Using qualitative and quantitative research, I completed my PhD Thesis in 2000, entitled: "Environmental Impact Assessment and Organizational Change: The Capability, Culture and Performance (CCP) Match". I passed with Distinction and Commendations, including recommendations to publish my Thesis as a book (forthcoming), and received the John Lewis Medal (Royal Geographical Society) for Outstanding Postgraduate Research.
During this time, I was awarded scholarships to conduct research in Western Australia, and present a research paper at an International Conference in New Zealand. I was also involved in research, tutoring and consultant lecturing for Adelaide University, including consultant lecturing in Singapore.
Master of Environmental Studies , Environmental Studies and Environmental and Strategic Environmental Assessment , 1994 — 1995
The Masters of Environmental Studies was a two-year degree, with the second year involving the completion of a Research Dissertation. I successfully completed the Dissertation in 1996, which was entitled: "Strategic Environmental Assessment: Developing a Framework for South Australia". Two independent examiners awarded commendations and suggested publication to change government decision-making and assessment practices. The Masters Degree also involved course-work over two years, in the multi-disciplinary fields of environmental studies and management, including modules in coastal zone management, Environmental Impact Assessment procedures and policies, environmental politics, philosophy and ethics, earth sciences and environmental health, hazard and risk management, amongst other areas. I was awarded the 'University Medal in Environmental Studies' for the completion of this Degree.
