Maurizio Collu graduated with a Master Degree in Aerospace Engineering (mark 100/100) in Milan, Italy.
In 2005 he joined Cranfield University and the Offshore Engineering & Naval Architecture Group for doctoral research under the supervision of Prof Minoo Patel. In his thesis, "Dynamics of Marine Vehicles with Aerodynamic Surfaces (2008)", he developed a coupled aero-hydro dynamics model for a new class of high speed marine vehicles; hybrid between an aircraft, a wing in ground effect vehicle and a high speed marine vehicle.
From November 2008 he is a Research Fellow in the same department. His main tasks are:
1) Offshore Renewable Energy: preliminary design of a floating support structure for a vertical axis wind turbine (NOVA project)
2) AAMV Research Supervisor: carrying on the PhD work, further developing the study of high speed marin vehicles with aerodynamic surfaces
Areas of interest:
- AAMV (Aerodynamically Alleviated Marine Vehicles) Dynamics
- Offshore Renewable Energy
- Renewable Energy: biofuel production and CO2 fixation simulation models
Simulation engineer, renewable energy model, mathematical models, stability, dynamics
