Director at McMillan Technology Ltd
Colchester, United Kingdom
John McMillan develops and implements marketing strategies and plans, mainly for the ICT industry. He has developed and marketed software and other high tech solutions for three decades, working for and with organisations from the largest to the smallest. He has worked with software houses and computer companies at director level for over 20 years.
John's speciality is bringing software products to market. He has maintained his thorough technical background which, combined with his business skills and experience, makes him invaluable for this function. He often forms alliances with companies outside the IT industry. They provide the industry knowledge, and John provides the experience of running a software house.
In his career, he has managed and launched numerous software products for ICL, at the time Europe's largest computer maker and the dominant supplier of IT to the UK government. He went on to launch their PCs, Unix and office systems to Central Government. He worked with the sales force, designed and gave demonstrations to key customers and set up a marketing team to continue the function permanently.
He also worked with Shaw & Sons, a publisher whose business was under threat from technology. John worked with the directors to create a software based project. He carried out the feasibility study and set up administration, production, marketing and quality systems. He ran the product launch and set up the team, building up sales to around £800,000 a year.
He offers consultancy services, especially for creating business plans and marketing as well as full interim management. He presents business workshops and seminars in universities and business events. There is a selection of articles on the McMillan Technology web site.
