Kindly note I am NOT an OPEN networker.
Of my 25+ years in IT, 20+ of these have been in management positions at Board level as a director. I have always subscribed to very hands-on management.
My entire career has been build around the objective of extracting maximum benefit from technology for those with whom I worked and who benefitted by that technology. I absolutely believe that there is no such thing as “impossible” from a computer hardware and software perspective. It all depends on how creative you are and how prepared you are to challenge conventional thinking.
As a result of technical excellence, my most successful endeavour, Silverlake Technology Solutions was appointed Premier Partner in development with the IBM AS/400 lab in Rochester, Minnesota, USA in 1996 - one of the first companies outside the USA to achieve this. Technology designed by me have been used in all the major economies around the globe and I have lectured on five continents on subjects ranging from systems management to continuous operations to application resilience.
The bulk of my career has been spend on enabling continuous operations, effecting high availability, systems management in all its disciplines, clustering, partitioning, self healing systems and application resilience. As such, my expertise tends to focus on the middleware and operating system level. In addition, I have spend quite a few years of my programming career doing low level communications programming between various shop-floor devices, PLC’s and between different computer systems.
Started as a trainee programmer on IBM System/38 in 1983.
Some companies whose IT strategy I have influenced and/or steered:
IBM - various countries: South Africa, Netherlands, UK, Germany, Sweden, Norway, France, Belgium, USA, Japan, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Canada, Switzerland.
Other: Investec, Momentum Life, Nashua, Mondi Group, SABC, Clicks, Unibank, SA Eagle, SA Department Foreign Affairs, ISCOR, Protea Assurance.
Enjoys “impossible” technical challenges.
Latest focus on leveraging existing software infrastructure, unlocking value through application modernisation, SOA and SaaS. BPI and Agility specific focus area.
Continuous operations, middleware, clustering, partitioning, virtualisation, “self-healing” applications, application resilience and software architecture.
Interests:
genetic programming
Compiler technologies

Company specialising in strategic positioning of new technologies and evaluation of new products.
Silverlake Strategic Consultants (Pty) Ltd consults exclusively in the fields of application resilience and application modernisation of commercial transaction processing applications internationally. A substantial portion of the R & D time and effort of SSC is rendered to TEMBO Technology Lab (Pty) Ltd. In addition, SSC holds the various designs and intellectual capital of all my efforts and maintains my various international professional affiliations and certifications.
For ENDORSEMENTS kindly review the TEMBO as well as various SILVERLAKE entries, which represents most of the endorsements received for my work at Silverlake and the various CATS and CATSe technologies that I architected and designed.
SSC was largely dormant from March 2001 to January 2008, due to bad health, but all our various international contacts was maintained throughout.

Kindly review all the relevant "Silverlake" and "TEMBO" entries on my profile.
There are several, as I used the R & D project name for my favourite computing platform (Silverlake aka AS/400, iSeries, i5, PowerSystems and IBM i) and favourite dangerous game animal (Tembo, Swahili for Elephant) on several of my companies and trusts.
The primary entries you can focus on are:
TEMBO Technology Lab (Pty) Ltd
Silverlake Technology Solutions (Pty) Ltd
Most dramatic results were generated at Silverlake Technology Solutions (Pty) Ltd from 1994 up to 2000. I was largely out of action due to a medical surgeon's bad judgement from start of 2001 until late 2007, but remained in close contact with the international computer software industry.

April 2003 — July 2004 (1 year 4 months)
The top instructer led programming school in South Africa experienced financial difficulties since the late '90's due to a number of reasons. Our Family Trust acquired the majority shareholding in this company, re-financed it and attempted to turn it around. This was to allow me an "easy" entrance back into the computing industry, after a prolonged absence due to bad health. Due to a combination of factors, including my bad health at the time, it was unfortunately not to be. The failure to turn LUSO around will remain probably the single biggest failure of my professional career and one that saddens me to this day.

The activities of TEMBO Technology Innovations (Pty) Ltd have been absorbed by TEMBO Technology Lab (Pty) Ltd.
Due to my bad health during the period 2001 - 2007 (medical surgeon's bad judgement), this never really got of the ground. At the time the medical fraternity was still grapling to come to terms with my problems.

Van Sandwyk had retired on February 28, 2001, due to poor judgement of a surgeon, following a tenure at JSE Securities Exchange-listed Idion Technology Holdings as Chief Technology Officer.

Silverlake, a Premier Partner in development with the IBM Rochester, MN Labs, specialised in the areas of cluster & partition management. The company developed a software solution to virtually partition a single AS/400 (CATS).
“Conceiving the CATS partitioning concept, architecting and developing it into a product, is one of my top achievements,” “At the time, partitioning a single AS/400 was deemed impossible".
IBM licensed it as the foundation of its international Rapid Recovery/400 service.”
IBM and several other international software companies licensed technology designed by Van Sandwyk. His customers spanned across 5 continents.
Silverlake was voted "Outstanding Performer" by IBM SA for 3 consecutive years. Received similar accolades from Lakeview Technology.
During my tenure at Silverlake, I have spend a total of about two years at IBM Rochester USA, IBM Netherlands in Zoetermeer and IBM UK in London.
