The Mercury News has been awarded several Pulitzer Prizes, and we were most recently a finalist in 2004 for our photography on the special California recall election.
The paper also has a global reputation as a leader in visual journalism. The Merc was judged a "World's Best-Designed Newspaper" by the Society for News Design. The Mercury News has been ranked as one of the 10 best newspapers in the United States by the Columbia Journalism Review.
More than 100 SND awards, including five Gold medals and more than 20 Silver medals. Also received a "World's Best-Designed Newspaper" award for work done in 2001, a portfolio which included the Merc's widely acclaimed coverage of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
Was the site chair and program director for SNDSJ: The Silicon Valley Workshop, the Society for News Design's 2004 annual conference. The milestone magazine and movie project "25 Influential Moments in News Design" was unveiled in San Jose.
