Standards Compliant Web Designer
London, United Kingdom
I am a self-employed web designer working to modern web standards. I focus on building clear, usable and accessible websites.
I've been in the new-media industry since 1992 and bring over 15 years experience to modern web design. I have two philosophies in my work: "Respect the user" and "Get it right first time".
I straddle the divide between designer and developer. I enjoy the creative side of web design: defining the structure, functionality and "look and feel" of a site, and I equally enjoy the building process using semantic HTML for structure, CSS for layout and all other "standards-compliant" web development techniques.
I strongly believe that all online tools and resources should be accessible and usable by as many people as possible. I do not believe in gratuitous use of technology for it's own sake.

August 2007 — Present (2 years 4 months)
I do three main things and do them well:
• Design and build websites for small to medium sized business
• Offer web-design and build services to agencies requiring out-of-house support
• Consult in web usability and accessibility
I work with agencies who need to supplement their in-house team and are keen to develop long-term relationships with high quality freelance consultants. I also produce full website builds for small businesses requiring a new web presence or the update of an exisiting website.
I am an expert in HTML/CSS site builds and have a very deep understanding of semantic document structuring, accessibility issues and very detailed knowledge of cross-browser website design and development.
Additionally, I do other graphics work such as producing incidental imagery for websites or e-Learning. I also enjoy developing texture art for computer games and photo manipulation and can offer services in these areas.
