An excellent problem solver, I have over a decade of experience in working both solo and with teams to drive development from concept through to production. I have extensive experience with 3D modeling (SolidWorks, Pro/Engineer) and analysis tools (structural, thermal, and tolerances), and have worked in both small startups and larger, established corporations.

February 2006 — Present (3 years 10 months)
I'm working as a consultant providing mechanical design and engineering services to companies in Colorado, Oregon, and California. My current work includes everything from rack mounted servers to consumer electronics made from injection molded plastic. Note, Pinnacle PD was formerly Gawlowski Design.

March 2003 — June 2004 (1 year 4 months)
I worked as an independent contractor, mostly for Acorn Product Development in Fremont, California, on a number of different projects. Most of the projects were rack mounted servers, with the focus on a 13.5U cardcage design, and a 4U server.
(Privately Held; 51-200 employees; Telecommunications industry)
September 2000 — March 2003 (2 years 7 months)
I worked as a Mechanical Engineer, with my primary responsibility being to manage an outside design firm in the design and development of the company's optical switch chassis. I was also responsible for the design of many of the modules that were to fit within that chassis. I used CFD analysis software to predict the thermal performance of many of those modules.
(Privately Held; 11-50 employees; Computer Hardware industry)
May 1999 — September 2000 (1 year 5 months)
Managed multiple clients and multiple projects simultaneously; performed statistical tolerance analysis of rack mounted card cage enclosures; project lead of a large rack mounted card cage for an optical networking startup; performed initial thermal analysis using Macroflow software, developed system layouts, designed and implemented EMI shielding concepts, analyzed system tolerances, set up and performed structural analysis, managed outside CFD vendor, managed cad designers and engineers on the project; helped with 2U server design; brainstormed 1U design concepts; provided overseas tooling support for high volume 5U chassis design; developed layouts for a modular 2U server; high volume plastic part design incorporating snap features; assisted with design and management of a rack mounted card cage featuring a midplane design; project lead for FlexATX computer chassis; worked with Industrial Design; modeled complex surfaces using Pro/Engine

September 1998 — May 1999 (9 months)
Responsible for all Mechanical Engineering tasks of the Fixed Network division, including new product development and sustaining engineering. Some project management experience. Participated in a feasibility study of a next generation radio communications device, mounted to a light pole and subjected to extreme environmental conditions (thermal, moisture, solar radiation). Supported manufacturing with sustaining engineering issues and documentation updates. Documented and supported Engineering Change Orders (ECOs). Performed Design Verification Testing (temperature, humidity, transportation, mechanical vibe).

June 1995 — August 1998 (3 years 3 months)
Key Mechanical Design Engineer in the Mobile Positioning and Communications group. Responsible for conceptual product design, detailed design, prototype testing, manufacturing pilot run support, vendor management, and sustaining engineering. Performed DVT testing, including temperature testing and mechanical shock and vibration testing. Die cast aluminum, injection molded plastic, and sheetmetal part design. Responsible for selecting cost effective production methods for pilot runs and regular manufacturing quantities. Developed contingency plans to offset any impact from potential hard tooling delays in pilot run and initial manufacturing phases. Worked with EMI shielding, high corrosion environments (saltwater), and significant heat dissipation via natural convection.
