Founder of RedShift - Life & Business Change Programs
Greater Boston Area
I founded RedShift in 1999 because I saw a gap at the convergence of the management consulting and the training/coaching industries. I determined that space could be best filled by an entrepreneurial, creative generalist, focused on the intersection of business, self-awareness and life direction.
So I designed and developed a series of consulting, coaching and creative programs to fill that gap and to help people adapt to, and expand their influence in an increasingly conceptual and connected world. Exemplified by Web 2.0 and Enterprise 2.0, this world requires superior functional and technical skills, as well as creative, entrepreneurial, leadership, communication and cognitive abilities.
What I do, is help individuals, business owners and executives respond to challenges, make decisions and communicate in a whole new way. In doing so, they develop new perspectives, create natural influence and increase value. Expansiveness follows: social capital, personal/business brand awareness and the ability to sense change before it happens..
Fun - I'm a champion master rower and unless there's ice, I can be found most very early mornings on the Charles River - training, racing and tracking the competition.

"When I finished graduate school I had one regret: that I didn't know how to 'hang out a shingle' and be my own professional services firm. Eventually, I just did it."
I provide consulting, coaching, and creative professional services to individuals, executives, program directors, teams and small business owners. I also write a blog, "Creating Natural Influence"
(Privately Held; 11-50 employees; Information Technology and Services industry)
January 1999 — September 1999 (9 months)
"Managing implementation of enterprise financial systems for mid-size firms raised my skills bridging communication gaps among technical, stakeholder and end-user groups. I learned that even in the midst of rapid technology change and new media, firms are most concerned with ROI and positive cash flow."
I managed financial system and software project plans and implementations, for mid-size firms.
Facilitated communications between developers, stakeholders and end-users to ensure ongoing project alignment with the business case and internal customer requirements.
Managed risk, scope and expectations by breaking down complex components and specifications into smaller tasks and timelines that were easier to prototype and communicate.
(Public Company; 201-500 employees; MMPT; Marketing and Advertising industry)
January 1998 — December 1998 (1 year)
"This position provided valuable experience at the intersection of advertising, consulting and interactive with large, traditional corporate clients. Additionally, I improved my skills leading cross-generational teams. My client successes were the impetus to start my own company, providing high-level solutions on a smaller scale, and eventually team facilitation programs."
I designed, wrote and presented strategy programs and research papers for very large clients, resulting in high-margin revenue contribution ($.5 million) and renewed agency business resulting from superb client experience and results. Client industries included consumer goods, retail, financial services.
(Public Company; 1001-5000 employees; Information Technology and Services industry)
July 1997 — December 1997 (6 months)
"It was a learning experience to be an employee of a company that was being acquired by a larger company. It helped me realize my natural abilities to accept change and to serve and support both internal and external clients during the change process. The importance of soft skills for change leaders eventually became a focal point for my own company."
(Privately Held; 51-200 employees; Internet industry)
March 1995 — July 1996 (1 year 5 months)
"It was great experience to be part of a high-growth professional services start-up. In addition to 'content is king', I learned about the following: positive impact of a strong culture on creativity and motivation, Solution Selling, burn rate, talent acquisition, taking on the most challenging clients, and Friday afternoon parties."
I developed and managed strategic client relationships by gaining understanding of their critical business issues in light of rapid technology change and increasing competition. I brought in ($.6 million) professional services revenue from high-visibility clients in financial services, retail, technology and publishing industries. The results helped optimally position the company with investors and partners.
(Privately Held; 11-50 employees; Mechanical or Industrial Engineering industry)
January 1991 — March 1993 (2 years 3 months)
"My first startup experience provided an opportunity to expand my skills and roles beyond finance and into sales, marketing and operations. I learned about partnership alignment, persistence and trade secret legal issues. The experience was the entry point to a Babson MBA in entrepreneurship with an award for entrepreneurial experience."
I was a partner in a start-up engineering and manufacturing company providing equipment, special advanced materials, and consulting services to the medical device, automotive and aerospace industries. I developed the business and marketing plans, brand strategy, trade shows and partnerships resulting in successful product launches, and leading to $.5 million in orders in the first year. I secured the facility and set up manufacturing and business operations and systems.
(Privately Held; 51-200 employees; Machinery industry)
January 1985 — December 1990 (6 years)
"I maximized the opportunity to contribute to the growth of a well-funded, international company. I designed and ran all the financial systems, including hedge programs, for a $25 million revenue subsidiary, on an AT&T 8 MHz DOS PC, 256kb of RAM, 72 MB hard drive, using SuperCalc and RealWorld Software.
I supported the successful installation of a U.S. subsidiary of an international, German-owned engineering company by designing, developing and managing the enterprise-wide financial reporting system.
Provided critical and timely information directly to U.S. and German senior management, and played a key role in the company’s ability to achieve domination of the U.S. market within four years.
Designed models for predicting and offsetting foreign exchange exposure; executed hedge contracts.
Analyzed borrowing requirements and negotiated credit lines.
MBA , Entrepreneurship , 1993 — 1994
I was honored to be accepted for one of the first one-year MBA programs offered by Babson. Once I got the required courses behind me, and mostly quickly forgotten, I was always found in as many classes that I could find taught by hands-on entrepreneurs. I was as inspired by their stories of failure, persistence, resilience and re-invention as I was by their successes.
B.S. , Business Administration
I broke the record for length of time to earn a bachelor's degree..approximately 18 years (including Junior College), and through many life changes, a few incredibly dumb mistakes, and a whole lotta good times. Majors included economics, mathematics, photography, psychology, French and fine arts. I loved it all!
