Mary Poplin's Summary
Since transplanting to Los Angeles in 2005, I have been a stereoscopic artist, compositor, matte painter, cleanplate artist, illustrator, and proficient rotopaint artist. I have even done the prerequisite Hollywood stint as an actress in short films and new media projects and continue to dabble in film projects as a SAG member. I like LA but I do miss the old oak trees, the lightning bugs, and the warm, humid evenings of the South. However, it’s also nice to be in a place where everyone is always creating their own work and trying to thrive.
I currently love my work as a Product Specialist for Imagineer Systems; evangelizing mocha, an Academy Award Winning planar tracking software, to studios and artists across the world. Essentially, I am the West Coast office for mocha and excellent networker. I am known for my unique sense of humor and my highly attended demos. I am also a proud member of the Visual Effects Society.
I like to share and put myself out there. I think that is why I have gravitated to teaching artists about software techniques. I feel like I won the "job lottery" because of mocha's down-to-earth corporate culture. I love to work and connect with new artists, especially when I get to engage more of their creative skills and less of their busy-work skills. I never do the same thing day in and day out; being a cog in a cubicle is not me.
I also craft in my spare time: usually handmade costumes, accessories, and props. I make my own content as a creative lead and create freelance illustrations. For entertainment I play a lot of MMO RPGs, Tabletops, and I am an avid LARPer; which has lead to great friends. I helped run a recreational LARP as the registered agent, web-master, and finance officer for years. Yes, I know how nerdy that is.
In a few years, I would like to be training other specialists as Imagineer grows. If you’d like to work together or you’d like a demo for your company, please contact me and we’ll talk about your needs and solutions.
