What is common to all of these different assignments? Delivering difficult projects or programs, often involving process and systems changes, on time and on budget while managing multiple competencies with significant dependencies. None of the programs I managed in my career at Xerox would have been successful without the ability to develop business or investment cases, support savings to be realized from process changes, and manage senior client stakeholders throughout the projects.

I was the graduate teaching assistant to Professor M. Gardner Clarke for a large undergraduate course on the economic geography of what was then known as the Soviet Union. Professor Clarke was a dear in the classic absent-minded professor mold who created an insane workload for me with essay exams and research papers to grade. I had nightmares about blue books full of bad handwriting and poor spelling for years afterwards.
