I'm a journalist who specializes in the use of technology to produce in-depth investigative and general reporting of public affairs. I write and report but also know how to code software, run a Web server, query a database and analyze data.

Have written the blog, Depth Reporting, since 2003. Co-founder of the Reporters' Cookbook, a wiki on reporting techniques.
Formerly a staff writer before becoming the newspaper's CAR Director. Was Western Kentucky reporter responsible for coverage of 19 counties in far Western Kentucky; state education reporter, which included coverage of the Kentucky General Assembly; Louisville police reporter and federal courts reporter.
