I graduated in 1992 with a degree in Information and Computing Science but with little desire to spend my days locked in a room full of buzzing mainframes coding Fortran77. On reflection, from a commercial standpoint, that may have been an error of judgement…

My creative streak saw me enter PR, marketing and communications. I have spent the past 20 years in the agency environment, developing and delivering campaigns for B2B and B2C brands in the UK and internationally.

For the past six years I’ve been focused on how digital and social technologies are transforming PR and the way in which businesses are enabling communication between and collaboration with customer and other 'stakeholders' (anyone with an interest in the activities of the company: customers, employees, shareholders, suppliers, partners, government, NGOs and members of the local community).

I believe that a company's brand is defined by its stakeholders’ experience of what it does. It’s that simple. Perception is no longer reality: reality is perception. And it’s a reality shared online for everyone to see. Jeff Bezos of Amazon says, “Your brand is what people say about you when you’re not in the room.” Social media means that today, everyone's in the same room.

I'm focused on finding the ways in which digital and social technologies can be used to enhance and extend the consumer and stakeholder experience and present marketing opportunities. I'm also interested in how businesses are being compelled to act for social good as well as for profit. I post some of my thoughts on these things on my blog, Once more, with meaning:
