Senior GIS Business Analyst at the City of Edmonton
British Columbia, Canada
I have worked with GIS technology since 1993, and in various levels of expertise and responsibility. I have also acquired diverse GIS experience in fields such as mineral exploration, ecosystem management, forestry, environment, municipal applications, state government transportation and in surveying and engineering in the oil & gas sector.
My education began with a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in archaeology, from Simon Fraser University (SFU) in 1987. My GIS career experience began after successfully completing the Geographic Information Systems Technology program at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) in 1995. However, I have been using, working with, and taking courses in, GIS technology since 1993. I added to my GIS education after successfully completing a postgraduate certificate in theoretical and applied GIS through SFU in the summer of 2003. This academic achievement led me directly into the GIS MSc program through the Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU), and my dissertation was officially accepted in October, 2006.
I worked as a GIS manager implementing and directing the development of a Geographic Information System, a position of which allowed me to further develop my skills of managing and implementing spatial technology and data. This position had a nice mix of technical and managerial duties, with GIS services, spatial technology and mapping being offered to clients.
I am constantly expanding my expertise in the field of GIS management with an aim to help lead those people and organizations that are unfamiliar with this technology navigate through the most common of pitfalls. In short, my goal is to help save organizations from the fate of needlessly losing money during the planning, implementation and usage phases of GIS development, and to provide the best GIS services wherever possible.
AML programming, some Python programming, spatial data analysis, database creation and development, spatial data management, GIS project management, cartography, web mapping, GIS management, GIS Business Analysis, GIS implementation, spatial data creation, spatial data conversion and transformation.
