Health Survey Coordinator
Tallahassee, Florida Area
Since 1999, I've been working in survey coordination and data management for the State of Florida. In my current position at the Florida Department of Health, I coordinate a CDC-funded, state-wide, multi-modal survey of new mothers on their health and health of their babies called PRAMS (Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System). The primary goal of the project is to collect generalizable data that can be used to inform programs and policies on maternal and child health. I utilize Base SAS 9.1 and SUDAAN for both data analysis and data management. I enjoy working with SAS.
When I'm not at my day job, I'm writing short stories or working on a novel I started through the National Novel Writing Month in November. My long-term goal is to become a published fiction writer. I also have strong editing skills. I have a Master's in English and have worked as a freelance editor, mostly for PhD students in the social sciences. I take particular pleasure in working with students who are non-native English speakers. I was a volunteer ESL tutor with the Leon County Literacy Volunteers for two years.
I've had the pleasure of working as a teaching assistant or mentor for two masters-level online courses in social work for several semesters. I appreciate the opportunity for higher education that online degree programs offer, and enjoy helping students connect through cyberspace. My primary duties are monitoring and grading of discussion boards, and providing technical and moral support.
I also create a limited series of graphic designs for my online stores at Cafepress.com and Zazzle.com. I am an expert knitter and novice quilter, and I'm hoping to eventually open another online store to sell handmade products.
Editing: technical reports.
Teaching: online courses in social work.
