Prior to working on the launch of my business in the Bizdom U program, I worked in media and design for such companies as CBS Radio, Michigan Business Review, and Gannet.
I first got involved in communications and multimedia in 1998 when I started printing my own zines and designing websites. As a pre-teen, I became Mudd Jeans online's first ever teen editor, and illustrated for the now defunct Airshop Catalog and PlanetKiki.com.
As a teen, I served as webmaster, cartoonist, and page editor for The Southfield Jay at Southfield High School, freelance writer for Latino U Magazine, The Obsidian at BGSU, Student Paths, and as webmaster for The Black Student Union at BGSU.
In 2004, I founded Tint Magazine and tintmagazine.com, a multicultural zine created to "Celebrate Women of Every Color." The zine went on to grow a dedicated following and received nods from the likes of Ellegirl Magazine, YPulse, Metro Times, and Crain's Detroit.
I currently work as the President of HUES: Designers of Color, publisher of I Am Young Detroit, and Creative Director of Detroit Design Lab.
I'm a graphic and web designer with up to date experience working in the latest Adobe products, and proficient in DHTML, CSS, and layout design for web. I have a specialty in working with Wordpress customizations and plugins, as well as social media design and marketing.
My journalism expertise is in writing for teen, women, African American, Latino, and multicultural markets. Specialty topics include pop culture, home decor, interior design, fashion design, celebrity culture, reality TV, entertainment, women's issues, Black issues, Latino issues, multicultural issues, race relations, Christianity, and faith.
I plan on continuing my career as a designer and writer for years to come. My ultimate goal is to bring Tint Magazine back as an online publication for young women. In the future I would like to expand Detroit Design Lab as a multimedia firm and open a fashion and decor shop.
