I joined the Internet industry in the early 90s, when it was in its infancy. I worked my way through several large ISPs in a range of positions from senior systems administrator through to head of technology before ultimately breaking off to work as a security consultant.
I worked in telecoms from 2001 initially starting as a performance consultant for Vizzavi where I delivered the platforms for the high profile show “pop idol” before moving into Architecture, Integration Management and ultimately Telecoms Security.
Most recently I have worked as senior management in a large property developer in Asia where I am responsible for designing and implementing information and security strategy in one of the worlds newest mega-structures.
My view of how security should be managed is both a proactive one and a positive one. I do not feel that security should be used as a blocker, but rather as an enabler that when used correctly enhances systems and services by giving people a degree of trust and safety.
I have strong communication skills and am able to adapt them so that I am comfortable working at all levels within an organisation.
I have given lectures on security, and have worked as an advisor to several TV networks including the BBC and UK networks Channel 4 and Granada, as well as international networks such as the National Geographic channel.
Perhaps most notably I have worked on the award winning BBC series “The Real Hustle” where I am both someone who designs technical scams and one of their on-screen security evangelists.
Building on this, I was media trained by Vodafone in order to represent their interests on programs such as BBC news.
I sit on several major industry steering groups including the Microsoft Chief Information Security Officer Council (CISO Council) and the GSMA security Group.
