Marcos Caceres’s Summary
My academic and professional career has focused on multi-disciplinary approaches to designing web-based systems. I am a skilled developer, interaction designer, researcher, technical writer, public speaker, and project manager.
As a developer, I bring ten years experience working with various web technologies and hypermedia including: ECMAscript, DOM, HTML, XML, ActionScript, ColdFusion, Java and C#. I have a solid understanding of object-oriented and functional programming principles, so I'm able to pick up programming languages quickly. I've conceptualized and implemented several systems that are currently in use at QUT. I also have good working knowledge of scalable software architectural styles for the web (eg. REST, SOA).
As an interaction designer, I've worked on numerous design projects that investigated alternative forms of human-computer interaction. These projects range from controlling user interfaces by coordinating back muscles an balance, using hand gestures to control video playback, and conceptualizing a chat client for online counseling for Kids Help Line.
Having undertaken both an Honors and a PhD, I have extensive research and written communications skills that I've applied professionally working as a researcher intern at the Center for Computer Science and Mathematics (CWI), and working at the Australasian CRC for Interaction Design (ACID).
I'm also a competent technical writer, with over two years experience as lead editor on a range of specifications at the W3C.
I'm a skilled public speaker and educator, having worked as a part-time lecturer and tutor at the Queensland University of Technology for over 7 years. I've written and delivered hundreds of classes on a variety of subjects, including traditional design theory, semiotics, interaction design, game development, hypermedia story telling, advanced web development and markup languages. I've also spoken at various conferences and been invited to speak at various organizations.
