Assistant Program Coordinator at the West European Studies Center, Indiana University
Bloomington, Indiana Area
After a year and a half as a professional Librarian with Broward County Libraries in South Florida, I moved back to Bloomington last summer and have since been working for Indiana University. Currently, I am helping to coordinate the programming needs of the Summer Dutch Institute and National Institute for Summer Scandinavian Studies for the West European Studies Center at IU. However, this is a temporary appointment and I would love to get back into a Public Library setting and to serve the needs of the local community.
Broward County Libraries is a very large and busy library system. During my time in Florida I was able to work the reference desks (Adult and Youth Services) at nearly twenty different branch libraries, giving me a range of experience. The needs of our system called for flexibility and adaptation; being a team player was key.
My permanent assignment at the busy West Regional Library in Plantation, FL, included creating staff schedules for fourteen librarians at three service points, creating statistical analyses of our busiest days, times, and service desks in order to maximize our manpower, as well as participating in collection development and the creation of book displays. Keeping up with emerging technologies in relation to Public Libraries was a priority for me and through Broward County I was able to take many continuing education courses and workshops.
I am detail-oriented, creative, energetic, and love solving problems. I have demonstrated flexibility and teamwork as well as independence and initiative during my time as a professional Librarian. I enjoy being part of a team, challenging myself and others to look outside the box, to think in new directions. Most of all, I love working in public service, inspiring the public to learn all they can, to take advantage of all which our libraries have to offer.
