Married and has three sons. In my free time, I enjoys spending time with his family at their lake cabin and snow/water skiing, playing the guitar and golfing.
Teaches classes at the U of MN Carlson School, and continuing education for the executive development center. He is a board member of the Brand Enterprise. Mallin, and family, lends his volunteer and financial support to the following organizations in the Twin Cities: Management Assistance Project; United Way; Jewish Family and Children’s Services; Minneapolis Crisis Nursery; and the Carlson School of Management. He and his wife, are raising $15mm for the current capital campaign for Beth El Synagogue. Mallin is on the board of the Balsam Lake Homeowners Association and is reforesting 100 acres of land in the area. His family also supports arts and culture in throughout the Midwest through organizations including the Ordway, Guthrie Theater, Minneapolis Institute of Art, Walker Arts Center, and Chicago Arts Institute.
Mallin, a finalist for Ernst & Young’s “Entrepreneur of the Year” award in 2001 and currently for 2004, has been recognized by the Twin Cities’ The Business Journal, where he was named to their “40 Under 40” list. While he was an employee of 3M, Mallin was awarded the Pyramid of Excellence Award, Circle of Technical Excellence and Alpha Grants, which are internal grants funding research for the company. In 1996, Mallin was nominated to participate in then Vice President Al Gore’s business, education and government partnership, InfoTEST International. His role on the committee was to co-author a benchmarking program, which was published in 1997, for rating the business performance of business, education and government Web sites.
