I am the author of "Flash Journalism: How to Create Multimedia News Packages" (published by Focal Press in 2005). I teach online journalism courses at the University of Florida, which is the largest university in Florida (the fourth-largest U.S. state).
Journalism has moved online, and journalists must do the same. My work includes keeping an ear to the ground and spotting new practices in producing journalism as they first enter newsrooms around the U.S. (and around the world). My mission is to help individual journalists and journalism organizations move forward and continue the vital work of informing the public, challenging the government to serve the public good, and helping people understand the world around them.
Increasingly we can see that people are moving away from newspapers, magazines and TV news. But their appetite for good, strong journalism remains -- and they are satisfying that appetite online.
My primary goal: To help journalists meet this challenge by transforming their work and their organizations.
